Chakana: wood, light and a place to gather I want to build a 3-metre wooden Chakana: a piece that brings people together around music, light and shared work. The project already has a 3D design, a parts list and a 1-metre model designed at an exact 1:3 scale. The next step is to take that work into the workshop, check the joints and test the lights. The goal is exactly USD 4,500 in gross contributions across all payment channels. It will support materials for the wooden structure and scale model, removable LED lighting with an ESP32 controller, and a solar power system for those lights. I will publish workshop progress, budget changes and an account of expenses. How the goal is allocated • USD 1,250: 3-metre wooden structure materials, hardware, packing and reference local transport. • USD 275: the exact 1:3 model and its tests. • USD 925: LEDs, profiles, control and electrical distribution. • USD 900: solar panel, battery and power electronics for lights and control. • USD 250: an allowance for an initial technical review. • USD 300: a platform and payment-processing reserve. • USD 100: a withdrawal and currency-conversion reserve. • USD 500: contingency. These allocations total USD 4,500. After both payment reserves, the plan leaves USD 4,100 for the project, including USD 500 of contingency. Several items still need quotations. Argentine reference prices retain their original source and date. Their comparison in dollars uses a planning assumption of ARS 1,500 per USD, not a market exchange-rate quote. What this stage can achieve The priorities are to build the scale model, check materials and joints, test lighting and battery endurance, and buy materials for the 3-metre structure. The solar design target is a 6-hour session with measured lighting and control demand capped at 65 W. Actual endurance will be tested with the real equipment and will depend on available sunlight. The plan relies on fabrication contributed by the project and workshop collaborators. It also assumes 58.92 linear metres of sound reclaimed cladding and ten compatible reused connectors; neither contribution is confirmed. Replacing all ten connectors adds a reference ARS 180,000. Missing cladding has not yet been priced. The technical-review allocation is partial: full engineering, professional fabrication, permits and insurance require separate quotes or in-kind support. If those assumptions change, I will publish the gap and adjust the funded stage before committing further expenses. The metal version remains a design exploration outside this campaign. DJ equipment, PA systems, large wash lights, a show computer and full event production are also outside the goal. Equipment shown in renderings illustrates a possible borrowed or rented setup and does not represent purchases funded here. How to help Contribute an amount that works for you, share the project, or offer materials or workshop time. Suggested amounts are USD 10, 25, 50, 100 and 250. Every amount supports the same goal and does not purchase a part or a reward. Progress documentation will be open to everyone. Transparency I will report gross contributions, fees, actual conversion rates and spending by category. In-kind contributions will be recorded separately and will not count as cash raised. No financial return or tax deduction is offered. If the goal is not reached, the model and tests come first and I will explain what remains unfunded. Any surplus will be reported and its proposed use will stay within the same wood, light and solar scope. The images are project visualizations. Public installation depends on the relevant technical checks. Any fire scene is a simulation only: batteries, panels, cables, LEDs, controllers and other recoverable components must be removed before any separately authorized burn. Thank you for helping turn this design into a shared experience.
